Vatnajökull Glacier Ice Cave
Ice caves in Iceland can be a bit different from those in countries where the temperature is constant. Most of the caves in Iceland are formed when water works its way through the glacier during summer.
The caves are not accessible during the summer, but when the temperature drops the ice strengthens, and you start to find new caves – like this one, with its astonishing beauty and color.
Ice caves in Iceland are very dangerous and should only be entered in the company of a trained guide who knows the glacier inside-out.
Vatnajökull Glacier is the biggest glacier in Iceland and the third largest in Europe in terms of area.
